COACHRA is a hybrid training app: it records your runs and workouts, tracks what you eat, and builds training plans around them. Doing that means holding some genuinely sensitive information about you — where you run, what your body weighs, what you eat. This policy sets out exactly what we hold, why, and who else ever sees it.
It describes what the app actually does. Where something is not collected, or a feature is not built yet, this says so rather than reserving the right in case.
Who we are. COACHRA is provided by Zachary Mabry ("we", "us"). For anything in this policy, including requests about your data, contact 12zack9@gmail.com.
Collected during onboarding, and editable afterwards in Settings:
Height, weight, birth year and sex are optional. They are used to calculate energy and macronutrient targets; without them, COACHRA shows generic defaults and tells you it is doing so.
If you use Territory, the polygon of ground enclosed by a claimed loop is stored, along with its area and when it was claimed.
Notification preferences, theme, offline map files, exported GPX files and the last location COACHRA obtained (see section 2) are stored on your device and are not uploaded. Your unit preference and time zone ARE uploaded — they are listed under "About you" above, because the Coach needs them to answer in your units and to know what day it is where you are.
Location is the most sensitive thing COACHRA holds, so it gets its own section.
What we record. When you start a recording, COACHRA records your precise location repeatedly until you stop. That trace is stored with the activity. Route planning, the map, nearby-place search and Territory also use your location or the area of the map you are looking at.
Precise, not approximate. Distance, pace and route detail cannot be calculated from a coarse location, so COACHRA requests precise location.
The last location, kept on your device. COACHRA remembers the most recent location it obtained, on your device only, so that a map can open where you are rather than somewhere arbitrary. It is used whenever a fresh fix is not available — indoors, or if you later turn location permission off — so a location obtained while permission was granted can still be used to centre a map after you withdraw it. It is never uploaded on its own, it is not part of a data export, and it is deleted when you sign out. To remove it sooner, sign out or delete the app.
Privacy zones. You can define circular zones — typically your home or workplace. When you publish a run, every point inside a privacy zone is removed from the copy other people can see. Territory refuses to publish a claimed loop whose boundary would reveal a privacy zone, and refuses rather than guessing if it cannot read your zones.
What is never shared automatically. A recorded run is private by default. Nothing you record is visible to anyone else unless you publish it or claim territory with it.
Background location. With your permission, COACHRA keeps recording your location while a run is in progress and the app is in the background or your screen is locked. iOS shows a status indicator while this is happening and Android shows a persistent notification, so it is always visible to you. Background recording runs only while a run is active and stops the moment you finish or discard it. If you decline, COACHRA still records normally while it is open on screen.
We use your data to:
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers.
These companies process data on our behalf, only to provide the service:
| Provider | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Everything in section 1 that leaves your device | Database, authentication and hosting |
| OpenAI | Your Coach messages, and the data the Coach reads to answer them — training, nutrition, schedule, body metrics, injuries and saved places (section 5) | To generate the Coach's replies |
| MapTiler | The area of the map you are viewing | To serve map tiles |
| openrouteservice | Start, end and waypoints of a route you are planning | To generate walking/running routes |
| OpenStreetMap / Overpass | The map area you are searching | To find nearby places (water, cafés, toilets) |
| RevenueCat | Your account identifier, and your purchase and subscription history | To run subscriptions and tell the app whether you have Premium |
| USDA FoodData Central | The food you search for | To look up nutrition figures |
| Open Food Facts | The food you search for, or a barcode you scan | To look up packaged foods |
| Expo | App version and update checks | To deliver the app and updates |
Some information is visible to other signed-in COACHRA users:
Your runs, workouts, food diary, body metrics, plans, saved places and Coach conversations are not visible to other users.
COACHRA does not currently send analytics or usage data to any third-party analytics provider. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
We may disclose data if we are legally required to.
When you send a message to the Coach, we send OpenAI: your message, the conversation so far, and whatever the Coach looked up in order to answer it.
The Coach has around two dozen tools it can call, and between them they reach most of what section 1 describes: your training, nutrition and schedule; your body metrics (birth year, sex, height and weight); any injuries you have recorded, including the note you wrote about them; your saved places by name, category and address; your segments and personal bests; your personal map — how much ground you have covered, and how new a given route is to you; and whether you have downloaded a route for offline use. It also receives your display name, time zone and any facts you have asked it to remember.
Rather than promise a fixed list that would go out of date the moment a new Coach ability ships, treat section 1 as the boundary: if something is described there, a question you ask the Coach can reach it.
We do not send OpenAI your email address, your password, or the precise coordinates of your runs and saved places.
OpenAI processes this to generate a reply. Under our agreement with them, your data is not used to train their models.
If you would rather none of this happened, do not use the Coach; the rest of COACHRA works without it.
Retention. We keep your data while your account exists. Some of it is also cached on your device so the app works offline.
Deleting your account. Settings → Account → Delete account. You type your email to confirm. This permanently deletes your account and everything associated with it — runs, workouts, food diary, plans, routes, segments, territory claims and Coach conversations — from our systems, and clears COACHRA's data from that device. It cannot be undone.
Exporting. You can export an individual activity as a GPX or TCX file from that activity's screen.
Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or object to our use of your data. Deletion and export are available in the app. For anything else, email 12zack9@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
COACHRA is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. COACHRA includes body-weight tracking and calorie targets, which are not appropriate for children. If you believe a child has created an account, email 12zack9@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Your data is protected in transit by TLS and stored on infrastructure with access controls that restrict every record to the account that owns it. Your session is kept in your device's secure storage.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and any regulator we are required to, without undue delay.
Our infrastructure providers store and process data in the United States. If you are outside the United States, using COACHRA means your data is transferred there.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app before any material change takes effect.
